New budgies and another rescue

  • Mood: Daily Needs
On Sunday we all went into Stirling to the pet shop to get another budgie. I was in two minds about it, on the one hand I felt that a new budgie would just be a disappointment because no budgie was ever going to replace Skittles. She never even made a budgie noise which is why we called her chatter Skitchat which was a mixture of sounds she heard from outside and the noises we made to her. But on the other hand I just couldn't cope with the silence in the house without her. I am home alone a lot of the time and so she was such a large part of my life, music is just not the same without her singing with it and everything reminds of her absence. Anyway we got to the pet shop and saw the perfect one straight away. Rachel and I both loved this little boy with a yellowish head and dusty green and turquoise colours on his body. So we bought him and a little pure white female that kept trying to hide underneath him and they were smooching a lot so we couldn't split them up. Yesterday they were both very quiet but relaxed and they don't freak out when you go up to the cage or cover them up at night which is good. Today they started chirping with music and stuff so I think we'll all get along fine. Just have to find names for them now!
Rachel and Allan arrived home today with a baby rosella they found in the middle of the road just up from our place. Allan didn't see it when he went to get Rach from school so it must have happened not long before they got there. Rachel had it in her hand and it was obviously in shock so it was straight off to Minton farm to the vet. She put the bird in a heated little capsule thing until the shock wore off and then she was going to check it over. There was a little blood on Rach's hand after she put it in and we think that it's leg was broken, poor little thing. I do hope it survives...third time lucky maybe, the last two birds we rescued both died so fingers crossed. I'll give her a ring tomorrow and see how it's doing. Someone must have hit it and maybe didn't even realize. Rosella's are notorious for grazing close to the edge of the road and often fly off at the last minute, sometimes in front of the car and because of the colouring of these particular ones, you don't always see them. I've uploaded a pic of the little dear and just pray that it makes it. Hope everyone is fine and having a great week. Love to you all:blowkiss:

Quick update on the little Rosella, so far he's doing well and is sitting up in the heatbox looking quite perky!:excited: Now we just have to wait and see how he goes for the next few days to make sure there are no internal injuries. Fingers crossed!:)

At this moment, there are more than 6, 770, 000, 000 people in the world.

....all you need is one.

Sounds like a Romeo & Juliet to me... only without the freakout suicide at the end. :giggle:

Sorry about the little Rosella....

Don't take life too seriously... Nobody comes out of it alive, anyway!

They are really cute and sweet and funny actually. Very acrobatic, I'll have to invest in a bigger cage for them and let them out for a fly around when the heaters not lit and they're used to the cage some more. The little Rosella is doing well so far...
