It was my birthday yesterday and it started out so well...I went to town with my daughter and her boyfriend and bought some long awaited jeans. YAY!! I was rather spoilt, My family bought me a large gorgeous stained glass lantern with a really nice candle to go with it and a box of all natural little ginger bread men. My husband also bought me a whole smoked salmon for dinner and prawns, oh and a smoked eel....ewwww! Usually I like it but this one was a bit funky...had a very strange chemical taste to it so I don't think that it was smoked naturally but rather soaked in smoke tasting chemicals! But the salmon was amazing!!!
Then...well, I'd noticed for the last few days that our budgie Skittles has a lump on her front on the left side and she's been acting very strange...having sex with her fav bell and then stuffing herself full of seed and throwing it up all over the bell. This apparently is natural for a bird that's by herself when she's ovulating...glad I'm not a budgie!!! Anyway they can then become egg bound if it's their first egg but the lump would have been lower and in the middle. So I rang the vet and we took her straight in. She's not egg bound...the vet thinks it's a tumour and she has to have surgery. As you all who know about birds would probably know, this in itself is very dangerous for small birds as they're so delicate and can succumb to the anaesthetic. So I didn't get much sleep last night and probably won't until Friday when she has the surgery. I've had budgies before and they're all sweeties but Skittles has a special little soul and a very unique and endearing character. She's such a special little preciousness I don't know what I'll do if she doesn't make it.
